Lost & Found Pets

Our Pet Adoption and Protection Center provides lost and found services to the public. Visit the Pet Adoption and Protection Center to search for and report your dog or cat missing.

Lost pets can be brought to the Pet Adoption and Protection Center where they will be cared for while they wait to be adopted or reunited with their owner.

  • If You Lost Your Pet

Visit our Pet Adoption and Protection Center daily to look for your lost dog or cat. Employees will be available to help you search all areas of our facility.

    Lost Pet Recovery Tips

    • Visit the Pet Adoption and Protection Center on a daily basis. Our Pet Adoption and Protection Center receives over 100 dogs and cats daily. Dogs over six months of age are held back from being adopted out for three days as per County Ordinance.
    • Animal Services employees will be available to help you search in all areas of the facility.
    • Create lost pet flyers. Include your contact information and a detailed description of your pet. Bring color copies of the flyer with you during your visit to Animal Services.
    • Check the bulletin boards across from the Lost and Found office for flyers of lost and found pets and pets in medical foster care.
    • You can search for your lost pet on (Petharbor)
    • Although it is difficult, check the deceased pet log located within the Lost and Found office. It is updated daily and will give you and your family closure.
    • Register your lost dog (Lost DOG Registration) or lost cat (Lost CAT Registration) with Pet harbor.
    • Post your pet on Finding Rover, a free mobile app that helps pet owners find their lost dogs in real-time using facial recognition technology.
    • Before your pet is lost, bring it to Animal Service to get a microchip implant.
    • Search other local animal shelters and websites such as The Miami Herald’s pets classified section, lostpets.com, pets911.com and dogdetective.com.
  • If You Find a Pet

If you find a lost dog or cat, you can bring it to our Pet Adoption and Protection Center. While at the Center, we will check the pet for a pet identification microchip in hopes of reuniting the pet with its owner. According to County ordinance, anyone who finds a lost dog or cat must notify the County's Animal Services Department and have the dog scanned for a microchip within 72 hours to find out if it's registered to an owner. Please click on this link to properly notify Miami-Dade County Animal Services. Failure to do so may result in civil penalty.

You can also register and post photos of found pets on Finding Rover.

To place a free found pet ad in The Miami Herald, call 305-350-2222 or fax the information to 305-995-8110. To place an ad in El Nuevo Herald, call 305-350-2345.
