Pay a Pet Citation

Civil citations are issued to pet owners for failure to comply with County Ordinances or laws. You can pay for the citation by phone, in person, mail or online. If you receive a notice and would like to dispute it, you may file an appeal.  

  • Paying a Citation

    Citations can be paid online using a major credit card, by calling the Clerk of the Courts, in person at Animal Services, the Clerk of Courts office, any County courthouse or by mail.

    • The citation number must be referenced on all check payments.
    • Check, money order or cashier's check must be made payable to: Animal Services.
  • Regulations & Compliance

    Civil citations and violation notices may be issued to pet owners who do not comply with County Ordinances or Laws. Here are some of the most common violations:

    • Failure to vaccinate animal against rabies
    • Failure to obtain license tag
    • Acquisition or keeping of pit bull dogs
    • Dog running at large
    • Unlawful tethering of dog

    If you have further questions or concerns about the notice you may have received, you can go to the Citation Unit and speak to them directly.

  • Disputing a Citation

    To dispute a citation received in error, you must provide proof of vaccination and license tag.

    Citations issued in error will be promptly voided. You will not be contacted.

    Voided citations take 6-8 weeks to be removed from County records. Closed citations can be verified by going to the Clerk of Courts website and entering the citation number.

  • Appealing a Valid Citation

    You may request an administrative hearing to appeal a citation deemed valid. 

    Requests must be submitted in writing within 20 calendar days from the date issued. You will be notified of a hearing date by mail.

    Requests can be faxed to 305-375-2731 or mailed.
