Request Dog Tag Transfer
You can transfer the ownership of a dog from one person to another at the Animal Services Pet Adoption and Protection Center. A completed Transfer of Ownership form is required if a dog is being transferred to another county in Florida. As a result, your pet's Miami-Dade account will be closed.
- The dog's old tag number will be transferred and valid until its expiration date. A new tag will be required only if the existing tag has expired.
- If the new owner decides to purchase a new tag prior to the old tag's expiration, the fee will not be prorated. Full price must be paid.
Eligibility & Requirements
To complete the dog ownership transfer, the following are required:
- Both new and old owners must appear at the Animal Services Pet Adoption and Protection Center.
- A notarized letter from the former owner showing complete delegation to the new owner and authorizing the transfer of the current license tag and microchip number. If a notarized letter is not presented, both parties must present a valid state picture ID and proof of current address for the new owner of the dog.
