Most residential properties receive automated pickup of the green waste carts two days each week. The cost of the service is billed as part of your annual tax bill.
Manual waste collection, where garbage is not placed in green waste carts, in very limited in Miami-Dade's service area.
Waste collection service is provided, rain or shine, except on these holidays: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Independence Day and Christmas Day, as observed by Miami-Dade County. Service will resume on your following scheduled pickup day.
What to place in your waste cart
Each household is provided with a standard 96-gallon green waste cart. Your wheeled cart is designed to hold all of your household garbage and trash (including grass, leaves and yard trimmings). Bag your household garbage before placing it in the cart.
Don't use the green waste cart for rocks, dirt, tile, construction and demolition debris, free-flowing liquids, flammables, automobile batteries, propane tanks or other home chemical waste.
Large items may be disposed at a Trash and Recycling Center or by scheduling a bulky waste pickup.
Place your green waste cart at the curb by 7 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day.
Place the cart within 3 feet of the street and at least 5 feet from mailboxes, parked cars or other obstacles. The wheels must face your home.
Don't stack items on top of or alongside your waste cart. They can't and won't be collected.
Moving into a new home
When you move into an existing home, a waste cart should already be there. If you don't find one, call 311 to place an order.
You may also call 311 to confirm the account has been updated under your name. If it has not, you will be required to provide proof of ownership such as a copy of your warranty deed or your closing statement.
If you're the owner of a newly-constructed home, call 311. An account will be created and your waste cart delivered. Carts will not be delivered until the home is occupied, so please order them once you've moved in.
Until your carts arrive, place garbage in bags that weigh less than 50 pounds each.
If your garbage is not picked up on your collection day, call 311 to report the missed pickup.
Ordering a new waste cart
Ordering an additional waste cart costs $79.50, and is prorated depending on when you sign up for the cart.
To exchange your standard 96-gallon waste cart for a smaller 35-gallon or 65-gallon cart, call 311.
You can also complete the form for a new waste cart, then fax or mail the form.
If your cart is damaged because of misuse, modification or placement of unacceptable materials, you will be responsible for purchasing a replacement cart.
If your cart is stolen, call the police department (non-emergency number) and obtain a case number. Then contact 311 with the police case number. A replacement cart will be delivered to you at no charge.
