Accessible Transit Services

All Miami-Dade County Transit services are wheelchair-accessible.

Accessible services include parking, elevators, platform tactile tiles, raised lettering and Braille signage, wheelchair turnstiles, a public-address system, curb cuts, elevator status announcements and Telecommunications Devices for the Deaf.

  • Metrobus

Persons using wheelchairs have priority boarding and exiting. Bus lifts permits both inboard and outboard facing. Ask the bus operator if you need assistance.

A recording or a bus operator announces transfer points, large intersections and major destinations. In addition, bus operators will announce any stop if a customer with a disability makes the request when boarding.

If a Metrobus is inoperable or completely occupied, back-up accessible transportation service is available within 30 minutes.

  • Metrorail

Persons using wheelchairs have priority boarding and exiting Metrorail.

The following 11 Metrorail stations are accessible to individuals with disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs:

    1. Dadeland South
    2. Dadeland North
    3. South Miami
    4. Douglas Road
    5. Brickell
    6. Government Center
    7. Civic Center
    8. Martin Luther King
    9. Plaza
    10. Tri-Rail
    11. Okeechobee

Metrorail riders with a state-issued parking permit or license plate for people with disabilities may park free in spaces designated for disabled riders.

  • Eligibility & Requirements

Persons with disabilities can ride Metrobus or Metrorail at half the regular fare with a discount-fare EASY Card.

To qualify for the discounted rate, a Florida Licensed Physician should complete the Discount Fare ID application form certifying your type of disability, medical code and whether the disability is permanent.

All applicants under 65 must also present a current valid Florida ID or Florida driver’s license with a Miami-Dade County physical address and their Social Security Number.

The completed application must then be brought to the Transit Service Center.
