Welcome to the new version of Miami-Dade County's website. We'd love your feedback. While we're at work, you may be directed to miamidade.gov, which is still your primary source for information.

Become a Poll Worker

Numerous elections are taking place in 2018 and we are actively recruiting registered voters who have an interest in serving their community.

Poll worker requirements and other information can be found below. Should you have any general questions regarding the poll worker opportunity, email pwinformation@miamidade.gov.

  • Requirements

In order to serve as a Miami-Dade County poll worker, an individual must:

    • Be a registered voter in Miami-Dade County
    • Be able to read, write and speak English
    • Attend mandatory training prior to each election
    • Have excellent customer service skills, treating everyone with both dignity and respect
    • Represent the county in a professional manner
    • Be able to work long hours (pre, during and post-election, dependent on position)
    • Be able to assist with pre- and post-election set-up (equipment, supplies, etc.) and closing procedures as necessary
    • Remain nonpartisan while at the polls
    • Have transportation to and from the polls
    • Have a valid email address
  • Required Training

All poll workers are required to be trained prior to elections. Training are offered over several days and times during training season (including Saturdays) to accommodate prospective poll workers’ schedules. Any poll worker not trained before an election is not eligible to work.

You must be a registered voter in Miami-Dade County and be able to read, write and speak English.

The Elections Department relies on the commitment of over 5,000 poll workers to ensure the conduct of fair and accurate elections in a Presidential Election Year.

  • Pay

Poll workers are paid a stipend for their services based on position in accordance with the Poll Worker Payment Schedule. Important: in order to be paid for training, a poll worker must also perform their scheduled Election Day duties.

  • On Election Day

The Elections Department tries to schedule all poll workers to work in their home precinct if possible. If your home precinct is full, you will be assigned to work in another nearby precinct.

Poll Workers working outside of their home precinct should request a Vote by Mail Ballot and return the voted Vote by Mail Ballot to our office before Election Day.

All poll workers must be at their assigned polling place at 5:30 a.m. on election morning. Polls are officially open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Poll workers are not permitted to leave their assigned polling place on Election Day, and are urged to vote during Early Voting or via Vote by Mail Ballot.

  • Returning for Future Elections

Once you have worked at the polls on Election Day, your record will remain active, and you do not have to reapply to be a poll worker. Training, however, is mandatory for every poll worker prior to each election. To determine whether you are still active in the poll worker database, please call 305-499-8448.
